What local say?

Located North of the country, Stung Streng was once a part of the majestic Khmer Empire. The province was once under control of Laos. Until now, it has served as an important trade hub for both countries, as the Lao border is only 50 kilometers away. This quiet place has a limited appeal to pull mass tourists and seems busy with transit traffic. It occupies  12,016 square kilometers of the country area and about 481 kilometers away from the capital, according to Steung Treng, Cambodia. The population of Stung Treng accounts for 138, 729, which constitutes 0.9% of Cambodia’s total population in 201, as confirmed by  stat.go.

Stung Treng Province is bordered with Ratanak Kiri and Mondul Kiri to the East, Preah Vihea and Kampong Thom to the West, Kratie to the South and Lao to the North.  Trade

Fisheries and silk crafts are not the main focus of the province’s economy while agriculture comes second. Mekong River runs through Stung Treng from North through South and joins the Sekong River, making for fish migration routes and habitats. However, this does not favor transportation or trade by waterway. Moreover, besides those who benefit from the river, other people live in other remote areas with minimal infrastructures. And they live on making clothes, farming, and more. Additionally, all types of goods trading with Laos are mostly conducted by boat, reported in Steung Treng, Cambodia.

Lifestyle

Because of its distance, Stung Treng has very few modern buildings or fancy architecture to mesmerize people with an enjoyable lifestyle. The livings of local people both in the Mekong and its tributaries are not fixed to rice farming, but also fishing, animal husbandry, riverbank vegetable cultivation, multi-crop farming, boat driving, and small trades.

Tourism

Stung Treng is well known for its natural resources that serve as the main source for the local people’s livelihood. Yet, the existing natural view also attracts people from different parts of the world. This province is highly recommended to those adventurous spirits who dare to leave their comfort zone. It is because you can not witness this province’s sights and vibe just by sitting on the bus set on the well-structured road. However, many good places fit all types of travelers like Sopheakmit waterfall, Lao community near the border, dolphin spots and bird watching, and other ecotourism sites, according to travel fish.

Transportation

There is only one main road to reach to Stung Treng, but different choices of the vehicle depend on the budget you are willing to pay. Several transportation companies available come with the prices starting from $8. And it would end up cheaper if you choose shared taxi or pick-up cars. To reach Stung Streng, name other departure points than Phnom Penh, such as Siem Reap, Kratie, Laos, and other neighboring provinces.
